Dr. Boyd will briefly review your medical history and you will have an opportunity to ask questions. Next, your blood will be drawn and specially prepared. A powerful, topical numbing cream will be applied to the area. Once your PRP is ready, Dr. Boyd will inject very specific areas of the vagina and clitoris with a tiny needle. While the injection takes just a few minutes, the entire process takes approximately 60 minutes.
Most women are quite comfortable during the procedure, while others experience mild discomfort. The discomfort is often described as a pinch or cramping. The sensation from the numbing cream may last 30-60 minutes after the procedure.
There are typically no side effects or downtime; however, there may be a few drops of blood from the injection site. We will provide a small pantiliner. You can return to work, exercise and any other activity the same day (including sexual activity).
On the day of your procedure, you will be scheduled for an 8-week follow-up phone consultation (no charge) to evaluate your progress and determine if further care will be needed.
Some women choose to have a second O- Shot® to provide further resolution to their problems, such as interstitial cystitis. You may have a second O-Shot® after 8 weeks, should you desire.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is not a drug, so PRP is not regulated by the FDA. PRP has always been shown to be safe and, in many medical specialties, to be effective at regeneration, healing and rejuvenation.
No, we do not perform the O-Shot® on women who are pregnant or lactating. You will be asked to sign a document to verify that you are not pregnant or lactating at time of the procedure.
Yes, anytime during a women's cycle is fine.
Currently, platelet-rich plasma is not covered by insurance.
You will need to wait at least 4 weeks after your surgery before considering PRP.
